Courses

Which course is right for you

Two flagship programmes, built for different points in a career. Most people know within a paragraph which one is theirs.

The choice

Start with what you need to change

Challenge of Rural Leadership

  • You want to look beyond your own farm or office gate
  • You want to improve your public presence
  • You want a part in shaping the UK rural sector
  • Two weeks at Dartington Hall, in January

Rural Business Management

  • You need to look hard at your own business model
  • You want to master the financial side
  • You want a concrete strategy for growth and resilience
  • Four months, with a fortnight residential in November

Or both, in time

They are complementary, not alternatives

Many delegates take Rural Business Management earlier in a management career, and the Challenge of Rural Leadership on moving into more senior, industry-facing roles.

Whichever you choose, the aim is the same: to put you in a position not only to reach your own goals, but to make a real contribution to the industry.

Before you rule anything out

Do not let cost decide it for you

Investing in the future of our rural landscapes means investing in people. We are looking for individuals from all backgrounds who are ready to lead, and we would rather use our network and our resources than lose someone who could make a real difference.

Ask about funding first

Nobody otherwise eligible should be kept off a course by cost alone. Through its Charitable Trust the Company provides substantial help — but ask early, before you decide against a course.

Sponsorship and funding

Become part of the Company.

Joining as a Liveryman means a life-long fellowship of like-minded people from across farming and food. The Clerk will guide you from first enquiry to Clothing.
