Challenge of Rural Leadership
Two weeks that develop the person as much as the manager
For people ready to look beyond their own farm or office gate, and take a part in shaping the rural sector. Running since 1996, under the tutorage of the Rural Business School at Duchy College.
- Where
- Dartington Hall, Devon
- Length
- Two weeks
- Ages
- 26 to about 50
- Since
- 1996
The programme builds personality and business acumen together. Media training and group discussion develop self-confidence and communication, while visiting speakers of real influence cover policy and their own approaches to leadership.
Who it is for
It suits the practical farmer, and serves equally as training for the people who shape the industry around them.
- Farmers ready to take a public role
- Policy makers and advisers
- Journalists and consultants
- An advanced education helps, but is not essential
What the fortnight does
Delegates share their experience openly. Over nearly thirty years, the mentors and friendships formed here have gone on to offer considerable continuing support long after the course ends.
- Media training and public presence
- Self-confidence and communication
- Policy, and how it is made
- Leadership styles, from people who lead
- A network that outlasts the course
