Support for community education
The Company works hard to help urban communities around the City of London understand more about modern farming in the UK today.
What we do
Four ways we take farming into the city
In the community
- Financial support for Surrey Docks inner city farm, with help and advice in kind — gifts of animals and equipment
- Liverymen take part in Open Farm days, to promote understanding of farming
In the City
- The Company takes part in the annual Lord Mayor’s Show, showing spectators and the television audience a different part of the food chain each year
- An annual scholarship prize goes to the top boy and the top girl at the City of London Freemen’s School
Why it matters
Most people never meet a farm
Understanding where food comes from is not something city children pick up by chance. The Company’s work with Surrey Docks Farm, with schools, and through the Lord Mayor’s Show is how a livery company of farmers earns its place in the City.
