Why it exists

Charity and Company, kept distinct

From 1 October 2020 the Worshipful Company of Farmers’ charitable assets and administration became the responsibility of a new trust company, the transfer timed to coincide with the charity’s existing financial year end.

The move followed advice from the Company’s lawyers, Stone King, and work undertaken on behalf of the Court by the Charity Advisory Group chaired by Past Master John Thorpe. It ensures the Company complies fully with the Charity Commission guidance issued during 2019, which requires a distinct separation between an organisation’s corporate and its charitable activities.

The objectives of the WCF Charitable Fund are not changed in any way by this separation. The new trustee company continues to fund the education programmes that have been a hallmark of the Company for many years, along with its other charitable activities.
